Please, answer anybody with some IT knowledge...
In the series, a lot of people (especially Chloe) use a lot of terms for programs, deciphering analyzers (Galvilan, Blowfish, etc.). How much of it is true? How true are the terms used in ';24';?
';Blowfish'; is an actual technology. It's freely available symmetric block cipher designed by Bruce Schneier as a drop-in replacement for DES or IDEA. Allows variable-length keys up to 448 bits.
I am not familiar with the other term.
Most TV shows use actual terms, although they don't always use them 100% accurately. How true are the terms used in ';24';?
a lot of ';techish'; series use real terms, but often misinterpreting them or mythizing them; don't trust them too much, it's just for fun, it would be a lot more boring if they would consider how really these things work or are used! and of course, here and there they can insert something ';totally new'; and unknown just to point out that someone (e.g. military world) has technologies or knowledges beyond common ones (and this may be true, but again don't trust the kind of truth they talk about!)
Most of the technology in 24 is as accurate as the technology on Star Trek. I work in tech support and had to give up on 24 several years ago because the technical inaccuracies drove me up a wall (and often left me rolling on the floor laughing at inopportune moments). They throw around technical terms but don't know what they mean.
