Is it true the term Anglo Saxon refers to Angeln and Saxony, in Germany, whose people overran England in the ?

5th century and took their language with them? Not England itself. Which means Americans have closer ties with Germans than the limies.

Must be why Americans like brats, hotdogs and beer...Is it true the term Anglo Saxon refers to Angeln and Saxony, in Germany, whose people overran England in the ?
Yes it's true. But since that happened 1000 years before English people came to America, how does that make Americans have closer ties with Germans than with English? Is it true the term Anglo Saxon refers to Angeln and Saxony, in Germany, whose people overran England in the ?
It is pro german term. Most british people from my experience that I know, My grandparents were british citizens consider themselves celtic. Usually when someone is lying about their background the will say Im an anglo saxon usually I know they are lying because true anglo saxons arent fond of the term. They have done genetic studies in Britain and contrary to prior beliefs. The population is 90 percent celtic 10 percent nordic. So in light of recent genetic studies with the haplotype r1b the term is destined for the dustbin of history.
That story is true, be sure of this. However, brats and hotdogs were not invented that early. The Saxons came from Lower Saxony on the North Sea coast, while the region which is called Saxony today (around Leipzig and Dresden) was a far off Slavic country in those days. And, yes, a majority of the English identify themselves with Anglo-Saxons, but don't enjoy having close ties with Germans. That's life...
Think what England means. Angle-Land!

And though Germanic, they did not come from what we now call Germany.

Although Americans have filled their heads with pseudo-history such as the 'Pilgrim Fathers', the actual colonisation of the continent was a pan-European thing, and at one point not long after the UDI, there was such a strong contingent of German settlers that German was proposed as the official language.
Its a bit more complicated than that, they may have given their name to a nation but the actual ethnic mix of Britain is far more diverse than that. These conquests were not wars of extinction, there would have been no ethnic cleansing. In other words wherever you found saxons you would probably also have found Celts etc too. In truth most of Europe will be a diverse mix because anyone who invaded Britain had to get across a chunk of Europe 1st.
I don't think that you are too far of the mark but considering more %26amp; more Americans are of Hispanic %26amp; African origin, I don't think the Germans would be too please with the connection.
Read Answer 2.

African American's,Hispanic's,Italian's, what about them.
The second answer makes a very good point...all this happened a LONG time before America was colonised by Europeans...
