Why do people think in terms of ';true religion'; vs. ';false religion';?

Truth is subjective and no one on this planet has the right to say what ';truth'; is. When people start thinking in terms of ';true religion'; mentality, absolutism is breed and thus wars are started. I think its very funny when I hear people say that they believe in the ';true religion'; and not the false ones. Neither such religions exist or they wouldn't even be religions that required faith in the first place. I am a Buddhist and we are encouraged not to see religions, including Buddhism, as either true or false. Religions are rather a guide and should not be a ruler. Why do people think in terms of ';true religion'; vs. ';false religion';?
I respect what you are saying and I think that many issues have more than one answer.

I believe Christianity is the truth, but I'm not pushy about it. If they aren't seeking, they won't find.

I don't tell people about my faith unless I have an actual relationship with them, or they ask me. I don't think you have a right to tell people what you know until they know that you care. I have to know where they are at, what they think, their backgrounds, their reasons they don't believe, etc. They have to know I love them. We are supposed to speak with our actions before we speak with out mouths, but we forget that. Sorry people come and bang on your door. I don't think that's effective, but their hearts are sometimes in the right place. They just want to show you what cool things they have found.

Anyway, basically, Jesus said ';I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the father except through me.'; We believe him. I wish it wasn't so, because I hate appearing closed-minded and I want everyone to get in, but I see how it makes sense and works with the system. It's basically who doesn't want to know Jesus and who does. He's not going to force people to be with him for eternity if they don't want to. Hell is the absence of God. You are left with what you wanted instead of him.

If you know Jesus and his nature, if you talk to him every day, and have a relationship with him, you feel it and know it's real. You believe him when he says he is God and there is only one way to be saved in eternity. I know this must sound wack to you, and I understand. The Bible even says certain concepts are tough for the atheist to get. Anyway, that's that. If we don't trust Jesus, the whole thing falls apart. You got a problem, take it up with him. We didn't make it up.

The thing is, most religions contradict on the main way to be saved. This means that someone has to be wrong for one to be right. They can't all be true, although they all have major truth in them. But the path to salvation is debated. Most say ';be a good person';, but is that fair? We all had different upbringings. What sort of person would I be with the circumstances of Himmler? Have I wasted what I have been given? Be a good person isn't fair to me. I like Christianity because it's about the heart. If you lay aside your pride and search for God and the truth with an open heart, you will end up saved. It's about grace. Besides, where is the cut-off point for ';good person';? Who DOESN'T think they are a good person?

Anyway, someone has to be right, why not us? Unless there is no right or wrong (but if you believe murder of innocent children is always wrong, then you must believe in a right or wrong, eh?) I don't see how you can reject ANY absolute truth ( and of course you must know that your question is rife with absolutist statements i.e. ';there is NO absolute truth';). Either I drove to the movies today in this dimansion or I didn't. I feel like humans know there is a universal right and wrong in our bones, otherwise we wouldn't all have pretty much the same rules.

That said, there is truth in every faith. We all know some things deep in our core. Just the main contradictory tenants are the issue. Why do people think in terms of ';true religion'; vs. ';false religion';?
ethnocentrism is the word of the day.

鈥搉oun 1. Sociology. the belief in the inherent superiority of one's own ethnic group or culture.

2. a tendency to view alien groups or cultures from the perspective of one's own.
go on now be like water.
And I think your question is funny, thats because religions contradict each other and they can't all be true, when a religion says Jesus is God,and the other says Allah is God,etc..only one can be true.
There is no true religion.

However, truth is NOT subjective. It is objective.

There are no absolutes IS an absolute.

What breeds wars is people disagreeing on what truth is.

Until people accept the truth that is based in reality, there will continue to be wars.

';Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, it doesn't go away.'; -PKD
We are all humans. We think differently. No one knows the true knowledge other than God. He was the one who brought us intelligence.

We don't know if it is true or false, we just accuse one another because they think they're right. It's natural for a human to do it. What is good is how to avoid from extending it.

Peace upon you.
false dichotomies are a part of human nature - they are gods gift to humans
Religion is faith. It is called Dharma or the way of living , according to ones own inborn nature. There can not true and false religion. The one who thinks his religion only is true is a hypocrite. The very purpose of religion is for all of us to live harmoniosly.
I disagree with you. The first religion on this planet was pagan in nature and it was not until the One True God saw fit to obliterate pagan idol worship as it called for the sacrifice of small children into the fires that He came through and established the true faith through men on an individual basis..first with Abel, then with Enoch, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Moses and so on until He was the God of one nation so that He could reveal His plan to save the whole world. There is only one pure, true religion and its revealed in His Word...everything is else is false doctrine including religiosity itself which is to polute something so simple and real with lies, ritual and self seeking power.

James 1:27

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Can get much plainer than that. Love in Christ, ~J~
Yeah, like a salad bar!
I think all of us must find their own path. I'm catholic, but very interested in Buddhism and believe in reincarnation. We can find God or whatever we call that higher power or energy in our heart and conscience, I believe. If we listen to our conscience, no matter what our culture, preachers or government says, we can't go wrong. No human being wants to be mean or hurt others, it's only bad experiences or cultural influences or indoctrination which turns humans ';evil'; and makes them fight against others. We should become aware that we are all a kind of entity and that we destroy that inner harmony and structure by negative actions against ourselves and others.
You must add World History to make things in Bible make sense. The book was written by people recording events.Example Jesus was A Black Man or Person of Color!!Due to Climate he lived in!!That's a fact!!Christians have him with Blond hair and Blue EYES!!That's a False Religion to me.IT doesn't make sense!! True Religion is the one that makes sense and doesn't divide people. All religions divide and that's the Devils work!!!
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
religion is horrible EOS. why cant we live without a book to tell us how to?
i disagree with your initial claim of truth being subjective, therefore rendering your question obsolete. Dont feel bad, if truth was subjective, then it wouldnt matter what any of us have to say.
