What exactly is a true conservative? I hear the term all the time but am confused about its meaning.?

Yahoo suggested this question go under Words and Wordplay. Hmmmm. What exactly is a true conservative? I hear the term all the time but am confused about its meaning.?
Prior to the Civil Rights Act, it was the Democrats who opposed racial equality.

When the Democrats began to enforce civil rights, it sent the southern democrats running to the Republican party and they've been influencing the Republican Party ever since.

This profoundly changed the nature of the Republican Party - it no longer has any resemblance to Lincoln's party. It seems strange to blame the Democrats for what happened to that party, but it's true. The ';bad democrats'; went to the republican side and forever corrupted Lincoln's party.

The Republican party has always used the conservative label, but prior to Civil Rights it meant small government and fiscal responsibility. After Civil Rights, Conservatism in the Republican Party meant southern bible thumping democrats who took control of the party. What exactly is a true conservative? I hear the term all the time but am confused about its meaning.?
No one reall knows any more. Today all we have is pretenders. The people that hate Liberals. Even though they truly don't know what a Liberal really is. They only know what they have been told by Hannity and Limbaugh.
Read ';The Conscience of a Conservative'; by Barry Goldwater. It will open your eyes! A true Conservative believes in the Classical Liberalism of our Founding Fathers.
They are real big on personal responsibility and honesty.
Try reading any Barry Goldwater books and you'll get all the answers you need on that topic.
to me its about family values, making something out of nothing, working hard to make your life work best for you and your family, i feel if i take care of my family ,and provide them with a future then im doing the right thing,
It means someone who is socially conservative, against abortions, pro death penalty, against gay marriage. AKA emphasis on regulations on society and less regulations on business and corporations. Less taxes and less regulations and more economically reserved. I hope that helps.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on some of my political articles http://theartoffreedom.blogspot.com/
