I would love to go into business except many good business schools require calculus and I am not great with grade 11 math. My current average is 81, with 25% of my lowest marks dropped. Do you think I should take calculus in grade 12?Is it true that if you don't take calculus in grade 12,it closes a lot of doors in terms of career options?
While calculus is essential in many careers and incredibly helpful in others you might not think (business, manufacturing, etc.), no doors close if you haven't taken it by the time you get to college.
HAVING SAID THAT, taking it in highschool is incredibly helpful. You will get much more personal instruction and a slower teaching pace. At the very worst, you can take it in high school, repeat the course in college, and have a huge leg up.
What's taught in highschool is only introductory. Having a solid foundation when you start talking Calc II, III, IV, vector calculus, etc. in college is really, REALLY helpful.
As a plus, having taken it looks great on a college app.Is it true that if you don't take calculus in grade 12,it closes a lot of doors in terms of career options?
I would see if there is pre-calc class offered to get your feet wet and then take the harder math in college. Most business schools won't shut you out simply because you didn't take calculus in high school. Many high schools don't even offer calculus.
You can take it in college; if you're not ready for it in high school, then you can certainly wait a year. In the meantime, take a year of college algebra or the equivalent to prepare. Do ALL your homework, and do it consistently, and you'll find it's a lot easier to do math in general.
Good luck!
It is definitely important to take calculus in grade 12. It will not close career options because you can take it in college. But the higher you get in math classes the better. More doors will open up for you. But you are a smart person, I think you can handle Calc. in grade 12, my personal opinion is you should take it. Good Luck.
Calculus is not only great for many career options, but is generally something you should know. It's like not knowing how to add. Just try and understand math. I have a perfect 100% average in mathematics because instead of memorizing any formulas, I understand them, and know where they come from. This also lead to my close to perfect marks in chemistry and physics also.
They do offer calculus in college....
Yes, you should certainly take calculus in 12th. It's WAY TOO important. Practice it EVERYDAY and you will find it easy. Good luck with that.
Yes, if you don't need the credit for high school graduation then absolutely. Only a number of students each year pass the AP test, but the ones that take the class and don't pass have a great look into what the class in college will be like.
so you want to put off learning calc until youre in college? why not just take it in hs as a crash course, if youre a senior and go ahead and apply early and get accepted, your grade in the class wont matter to begin with.
Then again, if you suck at math, maybe you should look at majors that don't have much in terms of math requirements
pam just do it you punk... you are so fortunate... I hella flamed u... oops.... and if you don't think you ready get the help..... duh!
People that love math don't need learn calculus in grade 12. I personally learn for interest and knowledge. An average of 81 for high school or any particular school is low. I think for honors in my school is just 6 points passing(I'm sure the passing grade is 75 for honors in my school...). Should you take calculus in grade 12? Sure, it'll help you improve your grades. Study physics and trigonometry along with it because calculus involves many life processes such as rates.
Take it in college.
Your college application is a little stronger if you've had calculus in high school, but not enough so that you should take it before you're ready. There's nothing wrong with starting your study of calculus after you get to college.
Total bull. As others have mentioned they do teach calc in college. If ur not strong in match then its better not to go for it. Coz later u'll face a lot of prob keeping up with it.
It isn't the end of the world at all if you don't take calculus in high school. As a college freshman if you start in calculus you are doing just fine. Even MIT offers Calc I so although some people enter college with calc under their belts, it is not the standard expectation.
